About CLE

The Council for Leather Exports (CLE) was set up in July 1984. A non-profit company registered under the Indian Companies Act 1956, the CLE functions as an autonomous organization under the aegis of Ministry of Commerce & Industry, Government of India. The CLE is the notified Export Promotion Council for Leather & Leather Products namely Leather tanning, Leather Footwear, non- Leather Footwear, Leather garments, Leather goods & accessories, gloves, harness & saddlery products etc. The CLE is an apex body of the strong and rapidly growing Indian Leather & Leather products industry committed towards its overall development and export growth.

The CLE is headquartered at Chennai, with Regional Offices at New Delhi, Chennai, Kanpur, Kolkata & Mumbai. In addition, CLE has two Extension Offices - one at Agra and another at Jalandhar.

CLE’s Core objectives :

Develop the Leather Industry both industrial development as well as export growth.
Undertake Promotional activities to increase global outreach of Indian Leather products.
Assisting importers anywhere in the world towards their sourcing needs of Leather & Leather products.
Providing necessary information and guidance to overseas investors towards joint venture collaborations and other strategic alliances.
Be a single point contact for the national & overseas business community and organizations, on any aspect in relation to the Leather.

CLE’s Activities :

Dissemination of market information, trends, policy matters and publishing information on commercial, technical and technological developments in the Indian Leather industry.

Participating in major international trade fairs & specialized trade shows across the globe.
Organizing Buyer-Seller Meets and Road Shows abroad besides B2B meetings in overseas countries.
Promoting, facilitating & attracting Joint Ventures, technical collaborations & strategic alliances, FDIs etc in to the Indian Leather Sector.
Inviting Resource persons/ Experts to the Trade Fairs, Seminars & Workshops held in India, for exchange of information, knowledge, ideas and strategies.
Collaboration with specific international projects to build capacities and increase trade between the countries involved in the projects.
Mooting Delegations to overseas countries with a view to identify the sources for raw materials.
Perform the Facilitation and coordination activities to wards implementation of Indian Leather Development Programme of Govt. of India.
Serving as a vital link between the Government and the industry members, while focusing on the overall growth of the Indian Leather industry.
